A Mushroomed Flange is a can flange that is over formed, resulting in a long body hook. Visual inspection of the can flange may show this condition or it may not be possible to see this until the can seam is stripped for inspection of the body and cover hooks.

Excessive Lower Chuck Spring pressure during manufacture of the canReduce the Lower Chuck Spring pressure
Worn Lower Chuck Plate grooves on can manufacturing seamerReplace the Lower Chuck Plates
Excessive lift pressure during the filling processCheck the Filler lift pressure
The can flange is damaged during can handling through the systemCheck the can handling equipment to insure that there is a smooth transfer of cans in all areas.
Worn can flanger diesCheck the Flanger die and replace if found to be worn.
